Why climate is a fight we can win

LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA, NEVADA - MAY 09: Local residents Derek Diaz (R) and Ornan Valdivia walk near a formally sunken boat resting on a section of dry lakebed along drought-stricken Lake Mead on May 9, 2022 in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Nevada. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation reported that Lake Mead, North America's largest artificial reservoir, has dropped to about 1,052 feet above sea level, the lowest it's been since being filled in 1937 after the construction of the Hoover Dam. Two sets of human remains have been discovered recently as the lake continues to recede. The declining water levels are a result of a climate change-fueled megadrought coupled with increased water demands in the Southwestern United States. (Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images)

There’s a 50:50 risk we cross the 1.5C threshold in 5 years and how big oil will make sure we do

Two days, two grim news stories.

CNN, 10 May, 2022 reports a 50:50 chance we’ll cross the 1.5C warming threshold within the next five years: ‘There’s now a 50:50 chance that the world will surpass a critical threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius of global warming in the next five years, a new World Meteorological Organization report shows, warning of heating that could have devastating impacts on systems like coral reefs as well as Arctic ice. The report says that surpassing the limit is likely to be temporary — temperatures could come back down again — but science shows that even a temporary overshoot could bring irreversible changes to the planet.

‘The report warns that at least one year between 2022 and 2026 will surpass the 1.5C mark and that there is a 93% chance that the period will see the warmest year on record. It’s also almost certain that, on average, the next five years will be hotter than the last five.’

Big oil cares only about maximising profit – even at the risk of killing the planet

Then, in the Guardian on 11 May, 2022, there’s the news that ‘Oil and gas majors are planning scores of vast projects that threaten to shatter the 1.5C climate goal. If governments do not act, these firms will continue to cash in as the world burns’.

Only the colonial mindset of political leaders in rich countries can make the brutal calculation that the interest of fossil fuel giants and their billions in profit is more important than the lives of people who are overwhelmingly black, brown and poor.”

Only industrial hemp has the power to stop this dystopian hell from being our future

We’re using Hempoffset technology to power new markets in zero waste, sustainable products made from industrial hemp. And we’re selling the verified offsets that will keep us alive until we get there. We can prevent the planet from crossing the 1.5C warming threshold. We’ll do this by planting a billion+ acres of industrial hemp worldwide. All we need is a fraction of the money that goes into new oil projects to go into hemp infrastructure instead. That’s literally all it takes. If you agree, please share.
